England manager Gareth Southgate and his players came in for a lot of criticisms for their disappointing result against Scotland. Scotland picked up just a point at the end of their campaign in the group and that came against Gareth Southgate and his wards.

Southgate needed to restore confident amongst the England fans with an improved performance against the Czechs and they did just that. England came out of the blocks quicker at the start of the game and they were rewarded with the only goal of the game from Raheem Sterling. Arsenal attacker Saka was involved in the build-up to the goal from the Manchester City player off the assist from the impressive Jack Grealish. Both Arsenal player Saka and Villa skipper Grealish were making their first starts at Euro 2020. Grealish came off the bench in the draw with Scotland in the last game, while Saka had not played at all until the Czech Republic encounter.

Arsenal starlet Saka was a thorn in the flesh of the Czech players and he was correctly named the best player on the pitch at the end of the game to add to the one he got in his last match for the team before the Euro tournament. He was named the best player in the 1-0 win over Austria in a warmup game ahead of the tournament. Saka scored the winner during the game played at the Riverside Stadium.
