West Ham weighing up move for Arsenal frontman

West Ham United could lodge a potential attempt to sign Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud after he revealed his frustration at being bench for most of the previous campaign. The France international made just 13 starts for the Gunners all season, but he still managed to bag a respectable tally of 16 goals.

Giroud had remained the first-choice striker for the Gunners until last season, where Arsene Wenger shuffled his options with Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck taking up the centre-forward duties. Continue reading “West Ham weighing up move for Arsenal frontman”

Pires thinks Wengar should consider signing Khedira

Former Arsenal midfielder Robert Pires says that his former boss Arsene Wenger should consider signing Sami Khedira from Real Madrid in January or in the summer. It is widely believed that the German international is on the market for around £ 10 million, a figure that should depreciate substantially going into the January transfer window. This is because of his contractual situation. Khedira is contracted to Real Madrid only until the summer and he can sign for the club for a free beyond June 30. Madrid have been trying to negotiate a new contract for a long time, but it appears that the player seems intent on moving on.

Rather than allow him to leave without receiving any transfer fee, Madrid are now looking to cash in on the player. At 27 years of age, Khedira comes into the market at the peak of his powers. He is a defensive midfielder who can also get forward and score goals. After spending a substantial amount of money in the last few transfer windows, Arsenal are yet to reap the rewards. Some have been critical of the players Arsenal have spent money on. The Premier league outfit have not made enough strengthening in the defensive area of the page according to many, including former Arsenal great Pires.

“He [Wenger] needs a big player in the middle, like Vieira, strong, tall, because this position is very important for the balance between attack and defence. The quality is there but you need more, maybe [someone] like Yaya Toure in middle. He reminds me of Patrick Vieira, maybe they have an opportunity with Khedira. It is likely in the January window. He played very well with Germany. My advice is if he can buy Khedira he can be the Vieira, more aggression in the middle,” said Pires.

Arteta Admits Arsenal are behind

Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta has admitted that the gunners were nowhere near enough the best after losing 2-0 to Borussia Dortmund in the opening Champions League group match. Arsenal reached the group stages after overcoming Besiktas in the qualifiers, but it was a result achieved only through a solitary goal from Alexis Sanchez. The Premier League outfit were convincingly outplayed on several occasions. The struggles faced by Arsene Wenger’s men at the start of the season were fully exploited by Dortmund, who never allowed a moment on the ball for the Arsenal players.

Arsenal came into the match after having drawn the last three league matches. Their latest failure to get a result came in the 2-2 draw with Manchester City. Arsenal managed to take some of the few chances they created in the game against City, but this was not the case at the Signal Iduna Park. Arteta recently returned from injury that he sustained during the Besiktas match. The former Everton men picked up a yellow card after failing to contain the threat of Dortmund throughout the match. Opposition number 10 Mkhitaryan was especially a major thorn against Arsenal despite failing to score.

Arteta could not offer much defence for Arsenal’s performance and he can only hope that it improves in the league match against Aston Villa on Saturday. “We faced a top side, one of the most difficult stadiums in Europe. We knew that from the start, they put us under pressure, it was very sloppy from us to concede the goal with 20 seconds to go in the first half. After you go 1-0 down here it’s very difficult, they’re very good on the break. We didn’t perform well enough tonight. We couldn’t cope with them,” said Arteta. Danny Welbeck failed to score in his second match for his new club.

Spurs Missing Modric

The Premier League club as they still have not managed to find a player who could fill in the boots that was left behind by the Welshman. During the seasons that Bale and Luka Modric made their claim as some of the best players not only in the English league but in the world, Tottenham managed on making a charge at the top of the Premier League but ever since both of them left White Hart Lane, the club has not been able to find players who could replicate their previous accomplishments and having a true chance of lifting the league title.

During this summer transfer window, Mauricio Pochettino is looking to reinforce his team but not only in the attacking department of the squad as the defensive section could be upgraded as well with Everton’s John Stones on the radar of the new coach of the club.

John Stones is a young defender with the ability to play at the heart of the defence or in the right-back position and at his 20 years of age he has already represented England in the international scene but Everton rejected all offers that was launched concerning the promising defender which means that Pochettino will have to look somewhere else for a defender that can help Tottenham and their journey of securing the league title.

Last season Tottenham was able to find the back of the net on 55 occasions but Pochettino wants to increase that amount during the next campaign which kicks off in August which is why he considering adding a few more strikers into the team with Javier Hernandez, Jay Rodriguez and Loic Remy all of which are being taken into consideration.

The Mexican forward Javier Hernandez has not managed on making his presence felt at Old Trafford in Manchester United and he has already revealed his intentions of joining a club where his playing time is guaranteed and Tottenham could be his solution.

PLAYERS LEAVING

Just when it seems that Wenger has managed to create a squad sufficiently good enough to win the Premier League, either some of their key players decide to leave the club or are sold. This is the case with Ashley Cole, Van Persie, Fabregas, Adebayor and others.

Some of those players continue receiving the support from Arsenal fans even when they leave the club but others are turned into villains and an example of this was Van Persie and Fabregas.

When the Dutchman Van Persie left Arsenal and joined Manchester United, during one of his opening conference and interviews Van Persie stated that he wanted to join a club where he can win silverware. This statement caused uproar of emotions but mostly anger with the fans of Arsenal.

Fabregas meanwhile joined Barcelona as it was his childhood club and supporters of the club are more supportive of the Spanish midfielder’s reason to leave the Premier League club.

Samir Nasri is another player that has been turned into a villain and the French midfielder revealed some of the main reasons on why he decided to leave Arsenal and join their direct rivals Manchester City.

‘’When you leave for a club where there is more money, you are supposed to be mercenary. I took stock before I went to Manchester City; I was joining a club with Yaya Toure, David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez’’.

‘’I spent three seasons at Arsenal without any title and at the end of the season we sold our best player that was Cesc Fabregas. I preferred to join City and I won titles and indeed I earn a better living. And why not a second national title in three years? I am very happy with my choice.” Nasri stated.

ARSENAL CHANCES HIT

The chances of Arsenal securing the Premier League title this season have been hit with a huge blow after only being able to pick up a 2-2 draw against Swansea City which comes a few days after losing against Chelsea.

Arsenal fell behind in the scoreboard when facing off against Swansea City after Wilfried Bony scored the opening goal but they managed on taking the lead when Podolski and Giroud scored at the 73rd and 74th minute but a late own goal from Flamini forced a draw out of the match. ARSENAL FALL OUT

Arsenal went out of the Champions League this season after suffering a 3-1 defeat on aggregate to Bayern Munich, but the club could have taken something out of the match had they scored in the first leg. Mesut Ozil missed a crucial penalty within a few minutes into the first leg. Arsenal were then reduced to 10 men after the goalkeeper was sent off for a challenge on Arjen Robben, who has been criticised heavily by Arsene Wenger after the second leg. The Dutchman once again went down too easily twice in the box to try and get his team a penalty.

The first time he was not very lucky, as the referee refused to accept his demands. Later in the match, however, he gave a penalty for a challenge on Robben, which was not converted by Thomas Müller. Hence, the game finished as a 1-1 draw, but Bayern Munich progressed due to their 2-0 win at the Emirates in the first leg. Wenger criticised Robben by saying that he was a good driver and that the referee could have prevented such acts by booking him during the first instance. The comment is likely to draw a response from Robben, who has been in imperious form for club and country in the last 12 months.

“Robben is very good at getting the maximum of nothing and he is a great player and as well a very good diver, but it is part of it. He is a fantastic player, I would not deny that, he’s one of the best players in the world. But he gets in front of a player and then he slows down and goes down. He gets the free-kicks. Even UEFA has come out and said that they have to rethink that problem,” said Wenger after the encounter.

RAMSEY SET TO PLAY

The Welsh midfielder of Arsenal, Aaron Ramsey has not played a match for Arsenal since picking up a thigh injury during Arsenal’s match against West Ham back in December of 2013.

He was expected to complete his recovery in January but he suffered a setback which has forced him on staying out of the playing grounds for 2 more months.

Ramsey has scored 13 goals for Arsenal in the current campaign which has helped the Premier League club not only on fighting for the top spots of the league but has also helped Arsenal on progressing into the last 16 teams remaining in the Champions League.

The 23 years old midfielder is hoping that he can make his return before Arsenal’s match against Tottenham which is scheduled to be played on March 16. If Ramsey can indeed complete his recovery by that date, it would be good news not only for Arsenal but also for Arsene Wenger as they have to face off against Chelsea, Manchester City and Everton on successive weeks.

While Ramsey is eager on making his way back to Arsenal, the agent of Thomas Vermaelen, has revelead that his client wants to exit the Premier League club at the end of the current season and this has sparked the interest of Wenger on seeking someone who can replace the Belgian defender.

Aymeric Laporte is a 19 years old defender who currently plays for Athletic Bilbao and his impressive series of performances has attracted the attention of Manchester United, Barcelona and Arsenal as they all would like the sign the young defender in the summer when the transfer window reopens.

BENDTNER PRASIED

Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger praised Bendtner as he stated that he has never given up on the Danish striker who managed to find the back of the net during the opening match of the year for Arsenal when they faced off against Cardiff City and had to wait until the 88th for the 1st goal to arrive.

Bendtner came on to the match as a substitute player and made a huge difference for the few minutes that he was on the pitch as he scored the opening goal with a close range shot that got its way into the back of the net, but the goal came at a cost for Bendtner as he is now injured.

It is expected that he will be fit and ready for action for Arsenal’s match against Fulham on January 18.

‘’Nicklas is a player who has gone through some difficult periods, so I just want to give him great credit,’ said Wenger, who was already without lead striker Olivier Giroud because of his own ankle problem. I told him already today that he is back to the level I want him to be at, and if he continues to develop like that he will come back into the team. Unfortunately he got injured today’’

‘’He was a bit unlucky; he said he landed on the foot of a Cardiff player and sprained his ankle. It looks like it is not a question of days, but weeks. I am very sad for us, but for him as well’’.

It was initially expected that Bendtner was going to be out of action for around 1 months but after the medical staff of Arsenal revealed the scan results, the injury is not as bad as believed. Which is great news for Arsenal considering that they have already lost Theo Walcott for the remainder of the season and Giroud seems to be in need of some breathing space, Bendtner will be back to play sooner than expected.

Arsenal target Alen Halilovic

England Premiere League team Arsenal and Tottenham’s target Alen Halilovic has played down talk of a move to Italy and told his taste to go to Spain or England. Alen is one of the most desired talents of Europe after breaking in Croatian national football team at the age of only seventeen.

It was thought that Tottenham was close to a contract for the footballer over summer and has carried on dialogues regarding a move since that time, but came to have maddened the footballer’s family by telling that they would like him to begin playing at a youth level at Tottenham.

It has seen German giants Bayern Munich and English Premier League club Arsenal enter the run. Some news suggests that a contract to send Alen to Germany at the season’s end has already been done.

New reports suggest that they have not reached any agreement. Recently, a leading website reported that Alen Halilovic told that he was never been in dialogues with either Juventus or Inter Milan. Zdravko Mamic is dealing with transfer market. He would not like to reveal which is his favorite team in case he joins another team. He expressed his fondness for EPL and hinted that Tottenham has not yet given up home of giving up their man. He told that during previous summer, he was near to an EPL club, and they are still tracking him.
